Known as Arp 87, the two galaxies are located approximately 300 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Leo, and their cosmic ‘dance’ spans 75,000 light-years.
The galaxy on the right shines with the youth of its blue star clusters, the result of an intense burst of star formation. Meanwhile, the one on the left, a spiral galaxy on the edge, enveloped in the matter that binds the galaxies, displays an intriguing polar ring.
